MASSENA -- At a recent playoff the Massena Women’s Softball League presented Canton-Potsdam Hospital with $4,100. Funds are designated to support needs of women undergoing breast cancer treatment. The money was raised through the Fourth Annual Women’s Breast Cancer Softball Tournament, which was held in July The funds will help pay for a wide range of expenses including travel, wigs, lymphadema garments, and other necessities that some patients cannot afford on their own.

“Cancer patients need to keep their focus on healing and recovery and should not have to worry about travel arrangements to their next appointment. The proceeds raised through this event are intended to help alleviate many of those worries and extra burdens,” said Jackie Dow, Director of Oncology Services at Canton-Potsdam Hospital. “Thank you for organizing another successful event. It’s heartwarming to see teams participating from as far as Plattsburgh to support our cancer patients and enjoy a weekend of exercise and healthy competition.”

Becky Good, Event Chairperson, reported that the tournament raised $8,200, which was shared between Massena Memorial Hospital and Canton-Potsdam Hospital. Individuals and/or teams are welcome to join; details will be advertised next spring for the July 2013 tournament.
