MASSENA -- The Town Council will decide next year on whether to buy into the Development Authority of the North Country’s geographic information system (GIS) mapping of public works.
They now have maps showing things such as water and sewer lines, fire hydrants, manholes and information on every parcel of property townwide.
The board will decide next year whether to permanently have the information hosted. It would cost $300 for the first year and $600 each subsequent year.
Lawmakers can choose to have the maps available to the general public or only to officials.
“The idea of having it publicly available is a contractor and look at it ... I talked to them specifically about security concerns, they think it’s a moot point, it’s accessible other ways,” Town Supervisor Joseph Gray said.
