On Sept. 26 and 27, the Norwood Model Railroad Club held its 17th Annual Model Train, Toy, and Collectable Expo in the Massena Arena.
It continues to be a very successful event. The attendance of approximately 700 was a mix of adults and delighted children of all ages. It was very rewarding to see so many smiling faces.
The winner of our raffle was Jim Evans of Plattsburgh. He elected to give the prize to the Fox Family of Hopkinton, and they were delighted to get the complete HO gauge train set.
The show consisted of 10 operating layouts from the Northeast and numerous vendors, selling and appraising model train items, coins, sports cards, toys, etc. A popular feature continuing this year was a free scenery clinic conducted by Susan Cooley, a Railroad Modeling Artisan from Connecticut. This year’s clinic was modeling trees.
Kenny Friedel set up his small-scale riding passenger train in the outside rink which provided excited children and their parents with free train rides.
We want to thank everyone that attended and helped make the event a success including our attendees, vendors, and layout operators. Many of our vendors and layout members, along with some of the attendees, were from out of town and contributed to the Massena and Louisville area economy by patronizing restaurants, motels, campsites, etc.
A particular thank you goes out to the Massena High School Rotary Interact Club for setup/teardown assistance and to Mike McCabe and his staff at the Massena Arena for their help and support, along with providing food and refreshments at the concession stand, which helped everything run smoothly.
The Train Club is always looking for new members. If this event sparked your interest in the model train hobby, please contact me at 315-250-0071, Tom Jarvis at 315-267-6945, or info@norwoodmodelrr.org.
