MASSENA -- Nightengale Elementary school will soon have a new principal, the Board of Education decided on Wednesday.
Amy Hornung will begin her duties on Dec. 2 at a salary of $72,000 per year. She was interim principal at St. Lawrence Central Elementary for the 2012-13 year.
William Flynn, a former superintendent of the Ogdensburg Central School District, has been filling the void at Nightengale at a rate of $350 per day. Shannon Jordan had resigned from the post on Oct. 13, which she held for just over four years. She left to take a position with St. Lawrence-Lewis BOCES.
Interim Superintent of Schools William Crist had told the board last month that he would have a recommendation to fill the Nightengale principal spot for the November meeting. He said the district chose Hornung from a pool of 10 candidates.
On Wednesday, the board made three additional appointments:
• Meaghan Manor-Janovsky to teach grade five at Nightengale Elementary at a salary of $38,133 per year. She has a three year contract that runs until Nov. 8, 2016.
• Bobbi Jo Wright as a 4.5 hour per-day bus monitor at a salary of $8,250 per year.
• Barbara LaTrace as a 2.5 hour per-day bus monitor at a salary of $4,754 per year.
• Melissa Ramie was hired as a substitute teacher at a rate of $100 per day, Teresa Grigg and Lindsay Hanson were each hired to substitute teach at a rate of $80 per day.
