MASSENA -- A Massena man was jailed on a felony assault charge for allegedly injuring a police officer while resisting arrest, village police said.
Stephenson M. Deshane, 37, of 130 County Rte. 43 is charged with second-degree assault, resisting arrest and disorderly conduct.
Court documents say Deshane injured an officer on Tuesday while he was being taken into custody. Officer Ian Vanier sustained injuries to his shoulder and sought treatment at Massena Memorial Hospital, according to court documents.
Police had responded to a complaint of a fight in parking lot at the Rusty Wheel, 32 Willow St.
A statement from Officer Corey Francis said police found Deshane in a loud argument with his wife. He then went and sat in his girlfriend's vehicle to get away and a third woman started yelling in his face, so he started to leave. Officer Francis tried to speak to him, but Deshane barged past him and when Francis tried to stop him again, Deshane became physically combative and ended up in a struggle on the ground with three police officers including Vanier, according to court documents.
Deshane was arraigned in Massena Village Court and remanded to the St. Lawrence County Correctional Facility, Canton in lieu of $2,500 bail or $5,000 bond.
