MASSENA -- A 23-year-old is facing two felonies after village police accused him Thursday night of illegal possessing firearms.

John W. Holmes of 10 West Ave. is charged with two felony counts of third-degree criminal possession of a weapon and one misdemeanor count of fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon.

Court documents state that police allegedly found Holmes in possession of a Smith and Wesson revolver and a Titan Tiger .38 special revolver, both loaded. He allegedly has a criminal record, which made the charges felonies, court documents state. He allegedly also had a switchblade knife, which led to the misdemeanor count.

Daniel Beaudoin, in a statement given to police, said Holmes was intoxicated and wanted to fight someone on the night of his arrest. He became irrational and pulled a gun, according to Beaudoin, but didn't threaten anyone with it. Beaudoin said he was able to talk Holmes down and get the weapon from him.

Someone had called police in the meantime, and they arrested Holmes at 7:45 p.m.

Holmes was arraigned in Massena Village Court before Justice Gerald Sharlow and sent to the St. Lawrence County Correctional Facility, Canton in lieu of $5,000 bail.
