NORFOLK – A Massena man was jailed Oct. 28 following a lengthy investigation of a motorcycle rider leading police on a high-speed chase on State Route 56 Aug. 15, according to state police.

Joseph M. Olmstead, 31, was charged with third-degree fleeing an officer, aggravated unlicensed operation, and reckless driving, troopers said.

State police said the arrest stems from an incident Aug. 15 around 8:20 p.m. where police observed an orange motorcycle speeding and failed to stop for the officer. The vehicle continued north onto State Route 37, passing another state police patrol vehicle and forcing several vehicles off the road, police said.

The trooper was unable to chase the motorcycle once the suspect drove into the residential area of Louisville on County Route 36.

He was additionally charged with speeding, speeding over the state limit, and unregistered motor vehicle.

Olmstead was arraigned at the Town of Norfolk Court and committed to St. Lawrence County Jail in lieu of $1,500 cash, $2,000 bond.

Olmstead was charged Oct. 27 for threatening to kill a woman with a 12-gauge shotgun. For more on that arrest see story.

Olmstead is also to appear at the Town of Louisville Court on Nov. 6 at 5:30 p.m.
