MASSENA -- Massena Fire Department Chief Thomas Miller approached the town council on Wednesday night to request $32,000 to update imaging and communications equipment.
He said they need a thermal imager and digital radios, noting that they have had radio-related issues because some of what they currently use are digital and some are outdated.
He said the thermal imaging camera will be mounted on a truck; they currently have one.
“It’s very crucial to maintain safety for our firemen,” Miller said, adding that membership is on the decline. “To recruit people and keep people, we’ve got to have equipment.”
Board members asked if the department could get by until budget time, Miller said that wasn’t a problem.
“You’ve been good to us in the past,” Miller said.
