MASSENA — Massena International-Richards Field Airport will receive $935,275 in federal funding to replace aging snow-removal equipment, a press release from U.S. Sens. Chuck Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand said.

The federal award will be used to replace one carrier vehicle that has reached the end of its useful life, according to the announcement.

The funding is part of more than $33.7 million in new Federal Aviation Administration Airport Improvement Program grants being awarded to airports across Upstate New York.

Schumer said the funding will help airports make safety and modernization improvements while preparing for winter weather.

“With winter approaching, it is more important than ever to ensure our airports are prepared for whatever winter storms come our way,” Schumer said.

Gillibrand said the latest round of fiscal year 2026 Airport Improvement Program grants includes funding for snow-removal equipment, runway improvements and other airport infrastructure projects.

The Massena award is the only airport grant listed for the North Country region.
