Make wool into yarn, learn to weave at Potsdam Public Museum

POTSDAM -- The Potsdam Public Museum is inviting teachers and home educators to bring their fourth grade students to the 2015 Spinning and Weaving Program.

The dates are May 14, 15 and 18.

Each tour will take an hour, divided into two 30-minute sections. The first part will be on sheep, wool, and the process of making raw wool into yarn as well as a demonstration of the spinning wheel. Students will have an opportunity to spin wool.

The second half covers traditional weaving on a hand loom. Students will learn the parts of the loom and how a loom works. After the weaving demonstration, students will all have an opportunity to weave on a variety of looms.

The times slots are: 9:15 to 10:15 a.m., 10:30 to 11:30 a.m., 12:15 to 1:15 p.m. and 1:30 to 2:30 p.m.
