To the Editor:
I am proud to offer my support for Patrick “Pat” Brady as he seeks election to the St. Lawrence County Legislature representing District 12. Having had the privilege of working under Pat's leadership and learning from him as a mentor, I can speak firsthand to his character, integrity, and genuine commitment to serving others.
I first met Pat when he was hired as Superintendent of Schools for the Massena Central School District, where I was employed. During my journey toward earning my School Building and School District Leader certifications, Pat became one of my mentors. His guidance helped shape my own approach to educational leadership, and many of the lessons I learned from him continue to influence the decisions I make as a school administrator today.
One of Pat's greatest strengths is his calm, thoughtful demeanor, particularly when navigating difficult situations. Leadership often requires making decisions that are not easy or universally popular, and Pat consistently demonstrated the ability to approach those situations with patience, professionalism, and fairness. He understands the importance of listening before acting, seeking input from stakeholders, considering multiple perspectives, and making decisions based on what is right rather than what is easiest. He recognizes that people deserve to feel heard and respected, even when the final decision may not be the one they had hoped for.
Pat is also a strong advocate for the people and communities he serves. Throughout his tenure at Massena Central, he demonstrated a commitment to looking beyond the traditional responsibilities of a school district to identify ways to better support students, families, and the broader community. Perhaps one of the most meaningful examples of this leadership was his commitment to bringing the Community Schools model to Massena Central. This initiative helped transform the relationship between the district and its community partners, connecting families with essential resources, strengthening relationships with local agencies and organizations, and recognizing that student success depends on much more than what happens within the walls of a classroom.
Under Pat's leadership, the district embraced programs and partnerships designed to address the needs of the whole child and family. These efforts reflected his understanding that effective leadership is not simply about managing an organization; it is about identifying barriers, bringing people together, and creating opportunities for others to succeed. His willingness to think creatively, embrace new initiatives, and advocate for additional resources left a meaningful impact on our district and community.
What I have always appreciated most about Pat is that he leads with humility. He does not need to be the loudest voice in the room to be an effective leader. Instead, he earns respect through consistency, collaboration, and a genuine willingness to listen. He is approachable, reasonable, and able to find common ground among individuals who may have very different opinions. These qualities are especially important in public service, where decisions must reflect the needs of an entire community rather than any single interest.
As someone who has benefited personally and professionally from Pat's mentorship, I have tremendous respect for both the leader and the person he is. I believe the same qualities that made him an effective superintendent—his steady leadership, fairness, advocacy, collaborative spirit, and commitment to the well-being of others—will serve him well as a St. Lawrence County Legislator.
I am pleased to offer my support and endorsement of Patrick Brady for St. Lawrence County Legislator, District 12. I am confident that he will approach this responsibility with the same integrity, thoughtfulness, and dedication to public service that I witnessed throughout his career in education.
