Sophomore Michael LeFevre hit a two-out, walk-off RBI double in the bottom of the 7th inning of the second game to help St. Lawrence baseball to a 5-4 come-from-behind win and another split with Vassar in Saturday's Liberty League doubleheader in the team's final games in Fort Myers, Fla.

Senior Jake Farrell was lights out in relief the win for the Saints, as he entered the game with his team trailing 4-1 and pitched three scoreless innings, allowing just one hit. He was the pitcher of record, earning his first win of the season.

The Brewers jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning of the afternoon matchup; manufacturing two runs on one walk, one hit, one error and four stolen bases in the frame.

But St. Lawrence sophomore Isaac Lewis led off the bottom half of the frame with a triple to right center and scored on the next at bat – a ground out to short by Mic Regan – to cut the deficit in half, 2-1.

Vassar pushed the lead back up to two runs when Brooks English came around to score on a single to left center by Cory Wuenschell, then added another in the top of the fifth to increase the lead to 4-1.

Denis Shanager led off the inning for the Brewers with a double down the left field line and then proceeded to steal third during the next at bat and score on an English RBI single.

English was the last batter starting pitcher Emmett Dunn faced in game two, as he went four innings and allowed four runs on five hits with three strikeouts before being relieved by Farrell.

A pair of sacrifice flies by the Saints in the bottom of the fifth helped the team cut the deficit to one run at 4-3, as Taylor Digilio and Tyler Guido both came around to score with RBIs going to Lewis and Adam Reichel, respectively.

Farrell and the Saints retired Vassar in order in the sixth and tacked on another run in their half of the inning, with LeFevre scoring on an RBI single by Digilio, to tie the game at 4-4 heading into the seventh.

After Regan led off the frame with a pop up to second base, Adam Reichel worked a walk to put a man on base for LeFevre, who brought the junior infielder home all the way from first two batters later with the double to right center to win the game for St. Lawrence.

The Saints come close to a sweep on Saturday, but dropped the morning game to the Brewers in extra innings, as Vassar scored five runs between the seventh and eighth en route to a 9-6 victory.

All six St. Lawrence runs came in the first three innings – two in each – as the Saints led 6-3 heading into the fourth.

In the first Lewis scored on a fielding error by the Vassar center fielder and Adam Reichel scored on an RBI single by LeFevre, as the Saints scored two runs on four hits and one error in the first inning for a 2-0 lead.

Adam Reichel hit a two RBI triple in the bottom of the second to extend the lead to 4-0, bringing Lewis and Guido around to score.

In the top of the third, Vassar put three runs across on three hits and one error, cutting the deficit to one run as starter Frank Grady was relieved by first-year Evan Reichel on the mound. Grady went two and a third for the Saints, allowing three earned runs on four hits with one strikeout.

St. Lawrence got two of the three runs back in the bottom of the frame on a two RBI single by Lewis that brought Digilio and LeFevre home to score but that would be all the Saints would put across in the first game.

Vassar added a run in the fourth and scored a pair of unearned runs in the top of the seventh inning to tie the game at 6-6 and force an extra frame.

In the top of the eighth, the Brewers put three runs across on three hits – including two for extra bases – for the eventual 9-6 margin.

St. Lawrence had back-to-back-to-back singles in the bottom of the eighth, but left the bases loaded in their final at bats.

Evan Reichel threw four innings in relief in the morning game, allowing two hits and three runs (one earned), before he was relieved by Liam Rogers, who ended up getting the loss for the Saints. Rogers pitched an inning and two-thirds and gave up five hits and three runs while posting two strikeouts.

Isaac Lewis and Michael LeFevre both combined for four hits through both games with Vassar on Saturday, while Lewis and Adam Reichel led the team with three RBI.

With the split, the Saints return to New York with a 3-8 record and will travel to the University of Rochester next weekend for a four game Liberty League series.
