MASSENA -- Organizers of the Labor Day parade say as many as 2,000 marchers could participate in this year's event, which will include a picnic afterward.
Marchers will line up on Willow Street for the Sept. 1 11 a.m. procession. It will head west, turn onto Main Street and head south. They will cross state Route 37 and stop at Spring's Park.
"The union groups marching represent 24,000 members in Jefferson, Lewis and St. Lawrence counties," parade organizer Michele Whalen said. "Pick a union and we have members representing them."
A flyer advertising the parade says its theme is "Unions: United we are one - divided we are done 'solidarity.'"
The picnic at the end is for marchers and their guests, Whalen said, and will include free food and beverages.
Parade organizers are also selling raffle tickets with a top prize of $10,000.
Any labor groups interested in marching should contact parade co-chairmen Ron McDougall at 323-1244 or Randy Woodside at 764-1778.
