Canton, NY – Kody Kocsis made 15 saves but six goals in the first and fourth quarters led visiting SUNY Poly to a 10-7 victory v. the SUNY Canton men's lacrosse team on Saturday.
SUNY Poly (4-0) took a 3-1 lead after the first quarter scoring with less than a second left in intermission. Each team scored twice in the second quarter as Kody Kocsis made 11 first-half saves to keep the game within 5-3 at intermission. Trenton Yule led Canton with two goals and one assist, but the Wildcats controlled face offs, 8-1 in the opening 30 minutes.
The Roos (5-2) got within a goal on multiple occasions including within 8-7 after Kyle Smith found Dante Coco with 4:47 remaining in the contest. However, the Wildcats scored twice in the final 2 minutes, 4 seconds to secure the win.
Yule led Canton with three goals and an assist, while Coco and Josh Yelvington scored twice each. Brandon Schmidt caused a game-best four turnovers and picked up four ground balls, while Smith added a team-best six ground balls.
Kody Kocsis made 15 saves and added five ground balls for the Roos, while Jared Laird stopped 14 shots for the Wildcats.
SUNY Poly held the edge in ground balls (43-28) and face offs (15-5).
The men's lacrosse team is back in action on Sunday when it hosts Johnson State College at 1 p.m.
