Cortland, NY - Less than perfect results over the last two years didn't keep the Clarkson University Women's Lacrosse team of picturing an upset on Saturday against 17th-ranked SUNY Cortland, but the Golden Knights couldn't complete their comeback, falling 11-10 in overtime against the Red Dragons on Saturday afternoon.

The Knights fell to 1-1 on the season and will face their third straight SUNYAC opponent on Wednesday when they host Oswego State. Cortland opened its season at 1-0.

Trailing by a goal at the half, Clarkson tacked on two goals in the first 10 minutes of the second period to take an 8-7 lead while keeping the Red Dragons off the board for a stretch of 34 minutes over the course of the two frames. When Cortland did score at the 7:37 mark to tie the game (its first goal since the 12:03 mark of the first half), the Dragons made sure not to fall behind Clarkson for the rest of the game. Cortland took the lead at 9-8, but Clarkson tied the game at 9-9 (6:06) and again at 10-10 (2:38) thanks to goals from Jaid Baytos.

In the overtime, Clarkson never got a chance to win the contest with its own offensive chance. Cortland's Hailey Dobbins won the draw in the extra session and the Dragons scored on their only shot of overtime. Brie Yonge found Carly Stone in front, and the junior midfielder snuck a shot past Clarkson's Samantha Gladd one minute into overtime.

Baytos finished with four goals and five draw controls while Abby Collins scored three first-half goals. Emma Andrews produced two points on a goal and an assist and also chipped in three groundballs, and Taylor Collins and Katie Sergeant each scored once. Lexi Smith also assisted on two goals. Stephanie Scaia led the team on defense with three groundballs and two caused turnovers.

Fort Cortland, Carly Stone and Lexie Meager each scored four goals. Katie Wolfe added a score and tacked on three groundballs and three caused turnovers.

Cortland held a modest 27-23 advantage in shots, but Clarkson won 14 of the 23 draw controls. Gladd finished with 10 saves for the Knights while Annie Casey made nine stops for the Red Dragons.
