A sweep of rival St. Lawrence helped the Clarkson University Baseball team clinch the number two seed in the Liberty League conference tournament. Clarkson won the first game 8-7 in 9 innings, and then won the second by a 13-5 score.

Clarkson now has a 23-7 overall record and is 16-6 in the Liberty League while the Saints finish their season with a 16-21 overall record and 7-16 conference record.

In the first game of the doubleheader, the Golden Knights would be the first to get on the board. Sophomore Chris Miller doubled in the bottom of the second and then a single by senior Nolan Driscoll brought him home to make the score 1-0. St. Lawrence would answer with five runs in the top of the third. In the bottom half of the third, a bases-loaded single by junior Chris Martin followed by a wild pitch and passed ball allowed Clarkson to score three runs and draw within one. They would tie the game at five in the bottom of the fourth when senior Matt Jenack's single drove home sophomore Paul Ludden. The Saints retook the lead with a run in the top of the sixth, but Jenack drove in senior John Coleman and then a sacrifice fly by freshman Will Coleman made it 7-6 heading into the final inning.

Unfortunately, Clarkson could not close the game out with St. Lawrence tying the game in the seventh and sending it to extra innings. After a scoreless eighth inning, Clarkson would finally win in the bottom of the ninth. Senior Tim Beninati singled to drive home sophomore Connor Dietrich for the game-winning run.

The second game started with a bang as St. Lawrence scored four runs in the top of the first inning. Clarkson would answer with three runs in the bottom half of the first and then four runs in both the second and third innings to open a commanding 11-4 lead. They added two more in the bottom of the fourth while St. Lawrence scored a single run in the top of the fifth to make the final score 13-5. Will Coleman and junior Greg Jasek led the way for Clarkson with Coleman picking up four RBI's on four hits while Jasek knocked in five runs on three hits, two of which were doubles.

Sophomore Dom Pirro started the first game on the mound, pitching two and one third innings and allowing four runs on four hits. Junior Jamie Terry pitched the next four innings, allowing three runs on four hits. Junior Anthony Padrazo would pitch the final two and two third innings without allowing a run to pick up his first win of the season. In the second game, sophomore Jeremy Barber started and pitched the first four innings, allowing four runs on five hits. Freshman Rory Corcoran pitched the next two, giving up one run on two hits and getting the victory. Finally, Driscoll pitched one frame and did not allow a run.

Clarkson will travel to Oswego for a game on Tuesday before heading to RPI where the conference tournament will start on Wednesday.
