After recently viewing an article of what could possibly happen to the Potsdam Village Police Department if the village was dissolved (“Dissolution Would Mean Change for Potsdam Police,” Feb. 2-8), I think it would be crazy for the police force to be completely dissolved. Many take the police for granted and don’t realize how much they actually do. As stated in the article, the Potsdam Police respond to rescue squad calls and are often first on scene. They help assist other agencies outside the village until the other agency arrives. As a village resident, I believe the force is vital to the Potsdam community. I couldn’t imagine Potsdam without them. With two colleges in the village, the police have their hands full. Whenever their help is needed, they are always quick to be there. Would you really want to wait 20 minutes or more for another agency to arrive? I would like to thank the Potsdam Police for all that they do.
