CANTON -- An inmate at the St. Lawrence County Correctional Facility was charged with possession of heroin following a cell search on Monday, according to St. Lawrence County sheriff’s deputies.
Trista D. LaDue, 23, Massena, was charged with first-degree promoting prison contraband and seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, officers said.
Sheriff K9 “Hershey” was deployed and a positive alert was indicated for the presence of illegal narcotics, deputies said.
Following a search of the cell, an unidentified tan powder substance was reportedly found. The substance was then field-tested and came up positive for heroin, officers said.
LaDue was arraigned in Pierrepont Town Court and sent back to the St. Lawrence County Correctional Facility on $2,500 bail or $5,000 bond, deputies said.
She had been previously charged on a village bench warrant at 1:30 p.m. Sunday at 2 Ripley St, Massena, where she was sent to the St. Lawrence County jail in Canton on $2,500 bail.
