James "Jim" B. Norton, 91, Massena

MASSENA -- James “Jim” B. Norton age 91, passed away on Tuesday, February 20, 2024, in Richmond, VA.

Jim was predeceased by his brothers, Victor Norton and Fred Norton.

Jim is survived by his loving wife, Lola; his children, Thomas Norton and his wife, Catherine Norton of Richmond, VA, Julia Page and her husband, Stephen Page of Montpelier, VT; grandchildren, Sara Norton and Mary Margaret Page; great-grandchildren, Levi Wilson and Grant Verry; his sister, Rita Manning of Hannawa Falls, NY; and several nieces and nephews.

Jim was born on January 7, 1933, in Massena, the son of Albert J. and Agnes (Vice) Norton.

Jim attended St. Mary’s School and Massena High School.

After high school graduation Jim went on to Canton ATI and received an Associates Degree.

He served in the US Army and was honorably discharged in 1954; he then went back to college at Clarkson and received a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering and a Master's Degree in Industrial Engineering.

He married Lola Michele on August 16, 1958.

Jim was employed at Reynolds Metals Company as a Mechanical Engineer, retiring as a Purchasing Manager after 35 years of service.

He enjoyed downhill skiing and skied until he was 80 years old. He also liked to work on the cottage on the St. Lawrence River and enjoyed a good game of golf.

He was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church, as well as an usher. He did volunteer work for AARP during tax season for over 20 years.

He served on the Massena Central School board for 11 years, was on the board for the Massena Savings & Loan for over 30 years and served on the Board of Assessment and Review for several years.

Arrangements are under the care and direction of the Phillips Memorial Home in Massena, NY.

A Mass of Christian Burial for Jim will be held at 12:00 pm on Friday, March 8, 2024, at St. Mary's Catholic Church located at 9505 Gayton Rd, Henrico, VA 23229 with a reception to follow.

Burial will be held in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Potsdam, NY at the convenience of the family.
