Canton, NY – Senior Roo of the Week Jordan Hunneyman (Redwood, NY) continued to have a hot bat as he smacked two home runs to lead the SUNY Canton baseball team to a 22-5 victory over host Cazenovia College on Monday. With the two long balls he now holds the all-time Roo home run record with 10 roundtrippers.
Hunneyman recently set the career hits record as surpassed the 100 hit mark on Saturday. On Monday he also scored four times and added 4 RBIs while Jeremy Baez (Bronx, NY) supplied plenty of offense going 3-for-5 from the plate with a three run shot and 5 RBIs. Braden Giffin (Lake Worth, NY) chipped in hitting 3-for-5 with two doubles, a homer and 3 RBIs. Jesse Barton (Belle Glade, FL) tattooed two doubles, while Matt Hall (Palmyra, NY) also added a two-bagger.
Overall, the Roos were seeing the ball tremendously as they hit .442 (23-for-52) as a team. SUNY Canton blew the game open early with eight runs in the first two innings to lead 8-1 after two. The team added at least two runs per inning in the fifth through eighth frames to cruise to the victory.
Freshman Travis Bigelow (Ottawa, ON) earned the first victory of his young career tossing six and two-thirds innings allowing just three earned runs. He struck out 11 batters on the night while surrendering five walks. Dom Deliberti (Staten Island, NY) and Andrew Krotje (Wurtsboro, NY) closed out the game in relief on the mound.
The Roos who have won five of their last six contests are back on the diamond on Tuesday when they square off with Hamilton College at Larry DeLutis Field in Rome, NY beginning at 6:00 p.m.
