POTSDAM — Eighteen people participated in a historic masonry reconstruction workshop at Bayside Cemetery in Potsdam this summer.
Sponsored by Adirondack Architectural Heritage (AARCH), the workshop was conducted by Andrew Turner and Noah Lupini of Lupini Construction of Utica, who introduced important skills to community members.
Those attending learned about matching mortar to stone type and historical period, removal of old mortar and surface preparation, application of new mortar, and surface finishing.
This summer, Lupini Construction completed the restoration of the northern urn-bearing tower in Bayside Cemetery’s sandstone entrance, completing the full restoration of all of the towers surrounding the entrance gates.
