I commend the Kingsburg Joint Union High School for voting in concealed carry of handguns for faculty and staff interested in doing so. Our area schools and colleges should do the same. Staff members and employees could be vetted, volunteer to take specialized training, and have availability to a weapon if an attack on their school takes place. This is a responsibility many would not want but some would be willing to undertake. Offer them a small stipend for their efforts. The cost would be far less than having an armed state police officer at the door like some schools pay for in St. Lawrence County. Time for our school boards to get a backbone and step up to the plate.
