POTSDAM – Gov. Andrew Cuomo has proclaimed May 6 as “Health Care Auxilian Day” in New York state.

The event recognizes auxilians who annually donate more than five million hours of service to their health care facilities and to their communities.

Canton-Potsdam Hospital is doubly fortunate to have two very active auxiliary groups working on its behalf: the Potsdam Hospital Guild, which was founded in the 1930’s, and the EJ Noble Guild of Canton-Potsdam Hospital, founded in the 1950’s.

Within just the past year the two Guilds have donated more than $85,000 in support of the Hospital’s mission. Each Guild holds community-based fundraising events such as Potsdam Guild’s Trivia Night, and the EJ Noble Guild’s “Night on the Town” gala.

Together, they sponsor the annual CPH Golf Tournament, held in July.

The Potsdam Guild also operates the gift shop located within the Hospital. New Volunteers and Guild members are always welcome.

New York has more than 75,000 health care Auxilians who initiate, fund, and volunteer for a wide variety of patient and family care services—from outpatient clinics to intensive care units. They sponsor community health fairs, health screenings, blood banks, and wellness lecture series; raise funds for hospital and nursing home equipment; and organize and underwrite outreach programs in their communities.

For more information about the Guilds, please contact Laura Cordts at the CPH Foundation, 261-5412, or visit www.cphospital.org./community.
