RUSSELL – A Gouverneur man allegedly fled from police after stealing a vehicle following a car accident in his own vehicle on Pestle Street Road Thursday, according to St. Lawrence County sheriff’s deputies.

Duane J. Risley, 23, was reportedly charged with third-degree grand larceny, third-degree criminal mischief, third-degree aggravated unlicensed operation speed not reasonable and prudent, leaving the scene of a property-damage accident and failure to comply.

Deputies said they responded to reports of multiple motor vehicle accidents in Russell during the early hours of July 2.

Officers said Risley struck a parked car on Blanchard Hill Road and left the scene of the accident.

Risley’s vehicle was later found off the roadway on Pestle Street Road. A short time later deputies received a report of a stolen vehicle from 18 Pestle Street Road.

The vehicle was soon located in the same area and Risley reportedly fled from officers. He was located around 8 a.m. and arrested, deputies said.

Risley was arraigned in Pierrepont court and released under the supervision of probation and it to appear in court at a later date, to answer the charges, deputies.
