CANTON -- George LaPierre, beloved father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend, passed away peacefully on October 1, 2026 at the age of 85.

He was born on July 6, 1941 in Long Island, NY to Sadie and Frederick LaPierre. George grew up in Canton, NY and attended Agricultural and Technical College (ATC) also in Canton.

Thereafter he was a herdsman, showed Holstein cows, and concluded his career as a Sales Rep at Rowe Feed Service. He enjoyed farm life.

Throughout his life, George was known for his quick wit, athleticism, sense of humor, and love of the outdoors and the Adirondacks. When not in the Adirondacks he enjoyed breakfast with his friends at local diners.

He was very athletic. He bowled, played high school basketball, was a center in hockey, enjoyed golf, and men’s softball. He loved his Clarkson University Golden Knights and was a Clarkson hockey season ticket holder for many years. His gift was quoting player statistics as well as naming nearly every Hobey Baker awardee.

George was a lifetime member of the Canton Club and President for 4 years in the 1980’s. He enjoyed a Friday night fish fry or spaghetti dinner at “The Club” and met many dear friends along the way.

Those close to him knew of his love for his camp in Tupper Lake. He spent nearly every weekend at “camp” when he could. At camp, he enjoyed maintaining his flower beds, canoeing the lake, hosting friends and family while also hiking the trails, just short of being a “46er”.

Family was at the heart of George’s life. He is survived by his former wife, three daughters and two siblings. Allien LaPierre mother of children who are: Anne Gordon (Stephen), Andrea Kanakis (Angelo), and Alicia LaPierre (Dom Mossmann). George has seven grandchildren, Ben, Andrew and Randy Gordon; George and Reed Kanakis and Theodore and Samantha Mossmann all residing in New Jersey. George was the oldest of his siblings, Marilu Kenny and youngest, James LaPierre both residing in New York.

He was uncle and great uncle to many nieces and nephews, but preceded in death by his parents Sadie Woods and Frederick LaPierre.

He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him. His memory will live on with his daughters, siblings, nieces/nephews, and grandchildren as well as his love of the Adirondacks.

A brief remembrance ceremony will take place at O’Leary Funeral home in Canton with a graveside service immediately following at Fairview Cemetery on Friday, October 9th all beginning at 1 pm.
