OGDENSBURG – The Stronger Ogdensburg for All Coalition will offer a free Narcan training on May 10 at the Youth Impact Center, 31 David St. at two training times offered at 3 p.m. and 6 p.m.
The Stronger Ogdensburg for All is a community-based coalition providing positive changes by developing pride in Ogdensburg and building community bonds and partnerships, said a press release from the organization.
Narcan is a brand name for naloxone, a medication designed to rapidly reverse opioid overdose. It is an opioid antagonist — meaning that it binds to opioid receptors and can reverse and block the effects of other opioids. It can very quickly restore normal respiration to a person whose breathing has slowed or stopped as a result of overdosing with heroin or prescription opioid pain medications, the press release said.
“This is a life-saving training that everyone in the community should attend. Opioid drug addiction does not discriminate regardless of age, socioeconomic status, etc. Everyone can do something,” says Patti Hogle, Coalition member.
This training is offered for free and the first 25 people to register will receive free Narcan kits thanks to St. Lawrence County Chemical Dependency.
Registration is strongly encouraged but not necessary. To register or for more information, email Stronger Ogdensburg for All at sofa13669@gmail.com or visit our Facebook page at @sofacoalition.
