FOWLER – A lightning strike ignited a fire that destroyed a barn Sunday, according to St. Lawrence County fire investigators.
The Gouverneur Volunteer Fire Department responded at 5:26 p.m. to the barn at 285 County Route 22 owned by William J. SIebels.
The Oxbow, Antwerp, Harrisville and Edwards fire departments provided mutual aid and the Gouverneur Volunteer Rescue Squad also responded. The Richville and DeKalb fire departments were on standby.
Investigators said the barn was a total loss, but firefighters were able to save an adjacent barn within ten feet of the structure.
Investigators said the building was not insured.
Gouverneur firefighters returned to the station at 8:11 p.m.
