POTSDAM -- Four years after the murder of a 12-year-old Potsdam middle-schooler, family and friends of Garrett John Phillips will meet once again in his memory.
On Saturday, Oct. 24, they will gather and invite others to join them at 2:30 p.m. to release balloons in remembrance of the day he was strangled to death in the Market Street apartment he shared with his mother.
Environmentally friendly latex balloons and bubbles will be available to purchase for $1. All proceeds raised go directly to the mentor program at A.A. Kingston Middle School.
Balloons will be released from the memorial bench erected in his honor, which is near the turf field at Potsdam Central High School.
A statement from the family says they are still “awaiting justice” in the case.
A suspect, former Clarkson University soccer coach Oral “Nick” Hillary, is awaiting trial.
