CANTON -- Several a cappella student vocal groups will perform during St. Lawrence University’s Family Weekend. All concerts are free and open to the public.
The Laurentian Singers will kick off the series at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 2, in the recently restored Gunnison Memorial Chapel. They will repeat the concert on Saturday, Oct. 3, at 7:30 p.m. again in the chapel.
A cappella groups the all-men Singing Saints, the all-women Singing Sinners and the UpBeats, which includes both men and women, will perform at 9 p.m. on both Friday and Saturday night in the chapel.
Will Fellows, a member of the Singing Saints, said, “It’s always a packed house, and it’s an incredible experience being able to share our love of music with students, faculty, community members, and of course the families.”
On Saturday beginning at 1:45 p.m., musician-in-residence Sondra Goldsmith Proctor will play the Chalres A. Coffin Estey Organ, built in 1926, to celebrate a return to Gunnison Memorial Chapel. The organ concert will feature music from John Philip Sousa, Henry Purcell, Jeremiah Clarke and Louis-Claude Daquin.
