POTSDAM — A fire engulfed a home at at 165 Pleasant Valley Rd. within minutes after two residents inside discovered the fire Monday afternoon, Oct. 6.
It's the latest of a number of fires that have struck St. Lawrence County in recent days.
Felecia Weller and her son, Jonathan Vercellotti, were in the house around 2 p.m. when Weller woke up her son to tell him the house was on fire.
After failing to put out the fire, Vercellotti and his mother ran out of the house and called the fire department.
Within 10 minutes after leaving the house, Vercellotti said the house’s windows were melting and the house was engulfed in flames.
The Potsdam Fire Department called for manpower and more tanks, and Norwood, Norfolk, and West Stockholm fire departments responded to help.
Norwood firefighter Billy McIntire said firefighters throughout the county have been busy the last few days with several brush fires, including ones in Canton and Gouverneur areas Monday morning and a large one in Waddington on Sunday.
McIntire said Massena and Brasher Fire Departments were also helping a large brushfire in Franklin County.
