MACOMB — Morristown firefighters battled a blaze Wednesday afternoon at 59 Mitchell Road Extension and were unable to save the structure, according to Morristown Fire Department Chief Kevin Crosby.
Firefighters received the report of an unknown fire at 1:26 p.m. and were on scene at 1:38 p.m., he said.
The structure was fully engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived on scene with multiple exposures, Crosby said.
“The fire had a big head start on us,” he said.
The structure was a complete loss but the damage was limited to the one building, he said.
“We did a defensive attack,” Crosby said. “There were high voltage primary power lines down as well as secondary lines which limited where we could take out attack lines.”
Firefighters were able to protect four other structures, a mobile camper and a boat from the flames.
The cause of the blaze is under investigation by the St. Lawrence County Cause & Origin Team.
Mutual aid was provided by Brier Hill and Heuvelton firefighters on scene, Hammond at the draft site and the Gouverneur Fire Department on standby in Morristown.
