DEPEYSTER – A faulty woodstove has been blamed for a fire that destroyed an Amish home Sunday, according to St. Lawrence County fire investigators.
The Heuvelton Fire Department responded at 11:01 p.m. to the home owned by Ely Shelter on County Route 17.
Mutual aid was provided by the Rensselaer Falls, Lisbon and Gouverneur fire departments and the Ogdensburg Volunteer Rescue Squad also responded. No injuries were reported.
The Morristown, Waddington and Morley fire departments were on standby.
The house has been declared a total loss, investigators said. It was not insured, they said.
Heuvelton firefighters returned to the station at 1:32 a.m. Monday.
