Enlighting list of foreclosure notices

To the Editor:

It was both shocking and enlightening to see the list of St. Lawrence County Property Foreclosure Notices printed in North Country This Week’s October 2nd edition. There were almost five pages of entries. These entries were all in a small font and if the reader had the time to count them the total would be several thousand properties. I believe the number of Foreclosure Notices was the most in historic terms for the county. Thank you North Country This week for publishing this list as always.

This list offers a stark local reflection of the national economy. Residents and businesses are struggling to absorb the costs created by national economic conditions. Federal policies must change; “Fallacies” may be the closest existing word for them, but a new word could be coined - “follicies.”

Elected Republican representatives at every level should not be rubber-stamping the chief executive’s failures in managing the economy, while Democrats must find creative ways to redirect both the national and local economies, redefining and refining priorities. The negative effects of the “Big, Beautiful Bill”  have begun trickling down to local communities and we and our neighbors are paying the price. One example of this is the cuts in the Snap program - A Big Beautiful Bill chestnut. Meanwhile the National Debt has soared into outer space during the past two years. Where is the fiscal responsibility? I guess that is also lost in space.

For a break from all of this I’m going fishing in Lake Ontario and then swimming in the Gulf of Mexico this coming spring (if I can afford the gas to travel to visit family there).
