MASSENA -- Enbridge St. Lawrence Gas is warning customers to keep natural gas meters, pressure regulators and appliance exhaust vents clear of snow and ice.
Enbridge says that to operate safely and efficiently, snow and ice must be cleared from those items, and dripping water should be kept from them.
They advise not to pile snow against the equipment so they can remain accessible and so that snow plow operators can see them.
Appliance vents that are blocked could cause dangerous carbon monoxide to build up indoors.
If you are away from home or have a seasonal residence, someone should be checking your property for you, Enbridge says.
If snow and ice can’t easily be removed with a broom or car brush, the use of force, such as hitting or kicking, or using sharp tools is not recommended. If it cannot be removed, Enbridge recommends calling a heating contractor or Enbridge at (800) 673-3301.
