Elsie I. Tayler, 90, Hammond

HAMMOND -- A Graveside service for Elsie I. Tayler, age 90 of Hammond NY will be held on Tuesday December 19, 2023 at 11:00 at the Rarick Cemetery in Hammond with Rev. Chris Carrara officiating. Mrs. Tayler passed away on Sunday (December 10, 2023) at the Canton-Potsdam Hospital surrounded by her loving family.

Surviving are three sons Ronald (Valerie) Tayler of California, Michael Tayler of Florida and Guy Tayler & his companion Sally Gilmour of Brier Hill; two daughters Connie Shoulette of Hammond, Diane (Steven) Martinez of Florida; a daughter-in-law Kathy Tayler of Canada; a sister-in-law Norma Hall of Webster; 7 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her son Kenneth Tayler in 2008; two brothers William & Lawrence “Stub” Phillips; a sister Mary Smith; a granddaughter Shelly Denicola; and a son in-law Alfred (Buff) Shoulette.

Elsie was born on July 18, 1933 in Hammond, a daughter of the late Leonard & Gladys (Peavey) Phillips. She graduated from Morristown Central and later married to Richard Tayler. She began her career as a waitress then became employed at Citizens Telephone Company as a secretary. She then transferred to Citizens National Bank where she worked for 18 years until her retirement.

Elsie was a starting member of the Senior Citizens Group in Hammond. She lived at Mill Site Manor Apartments in Hammond for 27 years, and was a Board member of Mill Site for several years. She enjoyed reading, traveling and time spent with her family. Memorial contributions can be made to the Hammond Public Library or the Hammond Museum.
