Behind a strong second-half surge the Clarkson University Women's Lacrosse team doubled up the University of Rochester 12-6 in Liberty League action at Hantz Turf Field on Saturday afternoon to continue its record-breaking winning streak.
After opening the season with a hard-fought loss to defending national champion Cortland State, the Golden Knights have rattled off a program-record eight straight wins to improve to 8-1 overall. Clarkson, which defeated conference foe RIT 11-9 on Friday, is 2-0 in Liberty League play.
Junior Kate Dillon led the way for the Green and Gold against the University of Rochester (3-6, 0-3) with a game-high seven points on three goals and four assists. Senior Christine Wright followed right behind with a six-point outing on two goals and four assists.
Trailing 4-3 late in the first half, Clarkson went on an eight-goal run to take control.
Sophomore Taylor Collins and Wright tallied goals right before the break to put the Knights on top 5-4 after the opening 30 minutes.
The Green and Gold scored the first six goals in the second half to take an 11-4 lead with 11:50 remaining. The Yellowjackets scored two of the final three goals to close the gap, but Clarkson's defense shut down any thoughts of a Rochester comeback.
Collins, senior Stephanie Lynch, and junior Ashley Flick scored twice and junior Christina Pollard scored once to round out the Clarkson goal scorers
The Knights outshot Rochester 21-17. Reigning Liberty League Defensive Player of the Week, freshman goaltender Samantha Gladd posted six saves for the win.
Cassie Mahar and Madeline Levy paced the Yellowjackets with two goals each. Maire Prosak made six saves for Rochester.
