POTSDAM -- An early goal in the first half proved to be the difference as the Clarkson University Men's Soccer team defeated Brockport State 1-0 on Saturday afternoon on Hantz Turf Field.

Clarkson improved to 2-0-0 on the young season while Brockport falls to 0-2-0. It is the second time in three seasons that Clarkson has started 2-0-0 under head coach Chris Taylor.

The Golden Knights took the lead on their first real chance of the game. After a Clarkson corner kick ended with a shot from Jon Jones that went just high, Clarkson was able to regain possession. Kevin Calnan beat a defender and attacked down the left side of the offensive third. He sent a low, hard cross into Brockport's penalty area and Stephen Klimek was there to hammer it home for his first collegiate goal. Calnan adds the assist to the two goals he scored on Friday and now has at least one point in five of the six North Country Classic games he has played in.

The rest of the game saw Brockport control the ball, but Clarkson held strong defensively. The Golden Eagles took 15 total shots, including 11 in the second half. However, the Golden Knights limited the prime opportunities for Brockport, as just two of the shots were on goal and senior goalkeeper Michael King was able to safely corral them.

Brockport held a 15-2 edge in shots and 6-3 edge in corner kicks. King had two saves for Clarkson while Joseph Romano did not have a stop for Brockport.

Clarkson's next game will be on Tuesday, September 6th when Plattsburgh State comes to Hantz Turf Field for a 6:00 pm game.
