The bulk carrier Cinnamon
OGDENSBURG – The Cyprus-registered bulk carrier Cinnamon arrived at the Port of Ogdensburg Monday to deliver dry bulk fertilizer for distribution for agricultural use.
The delivered dry fertilizer is a new commodity at the port and will be used throughout the North Country’s counties and by agribusiness and farms in the U.S. and Canada.
This shipment is part of the 10-year agreement signed last year between the Ogdensburg Bridge and Port Authority and Nasco NY, a subsidiary of Quebec Stevedoring Limited (QSL). Under the agreement the company is operating the Seaway terminal at Ogdensburg. QSL operates 29 port terminals from Nova Scotia to Chicago, along the St. Lawrence River into the Great Lakes.
Built in 2003, the bulk carrier Cinnamon is 186 meters, or 610 feet, by 24 meters, or 79 feet, drafts 9.3 meters, 30.5 feet, and has a gross tonnage of 18,311 tons.
This is the first shipment of dry fertilizer received by the Port of Ogdensburg for the upcoming growing season. Cinnamon’s prior ports of call were Germany, Gibraltar, and Spain.
“We welcome this new commodity and the new port customer to the Port of Ogdensburg,” said OBPA Executive Director Wade A. Davis. “This new cargo represents an exciting, new opportunity for regional farms and agricultural-related businesses.”
