POTSDAM – Auto dealer and restaurant owner Con Mahoney says his plans for the former Tardelli’s Restaurant at 141 Market St. aren’t firm, but now that he has some approvals from the village, he is ready to get back to work on it in earnest.
The village planning board Thursday approved a drive-through window at what is to be called Billy’s, the name of his deli on Main Street. It is also the name of the sub shop he recently closed in downtown Canton after seven months operation, as well the name of a sub shop he operated in Canton about 40 years ago.
But Mahoney says that at this point he’s not certain he’ll even put in a drive-through at the new restaurant.
What he is sure about, he said, is that “it’s going to be a beautiful building by the time I get done with it.”
He also says it will have a new porch and a new sidewalk.
There has been some turmoil due to turnover in the village Planning and Development Office, and Mahoney said he has not done much on the building for the past five weeks while he waited for things at the office to be sorted out.
“I’ll meet with the code enforcement officer on Monday and if there aren’t any problems we’ll get back to work on it on Tuesday,” he said.
Mahoney also runs Mahoney’s Auto Mall on U. S. Hwy. 11 just south of the village.
