Deborah L. Darou, 65, Canton

CANTON -- Deborah L. Darou, 65, of Canton died peacefully in the company of family on Saturday, December 30, 2023, at the Canton-Potsdam Hospital where she had been a patient for a short time.

Deborah was born September 14, 1958, a daughter of the late Robert and Margaret (Connelly) Cashman. She attended St. Mary’s Parochial School, graduated from Canton High School in 1976, and earned degrees in accounting from Canton ATC and mathematics at Potsdam State University. Deborah worked for 30 + years and retired as Deputy Chief Clerk from the United States Unified Court System.

On July 21, 1990, Deborah was married to Mark A. Darou at St. Mary’s Church in Canton with Father Joe Elliot and Father R. Daniel DeLorme, concelebrating. Deborah enjoyed quilting and was a member of the Borderline Quilters, she was an avid reader and cross-stitcher, she played piano and guitar, enjoyed yoga, and was a communicant of St. Mary’s Church, Canton.

Deborah is survived by her husband of 33 years, Mark Darou; two daughters, Olivia (Jeremiah) Sullivan and Abigail Darou; a granddaughter, Isabel Marie Sullivan; a sister, Kimberly (Duane) Pierce; a niece, Jessica (Frederick) Rowe and great-nephew, Robert Rowe; and by numerous friends.

Calling hours will be held at the O’Leary Funeral Home, Canton on Friday, January 5, 2024, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. A Memorial Mass will be held on Saturday, January 6, 2024, at 1:30 pm at St. Mary’s Church, Canton with Father Bryan Stitt, Pastor, celebrating. Burial in the Parish Cemetery will follow.
