POTSDAM -- SUNY Potsdam's Crane School of Music will present a faculty recital with Julianne Kirk-Doyle on clarinet and Dean Michael Sitton on piano.

The performance will be Monday, Oct. 5 at 7:30 p.m. in the Sara M. Snell Music Theater.

The concert will open with "Sonatina for Clarinet and Piano," a 1948 work by Crane Professor Emeritus Arthur Frackenpohl, followed by "Licorice Licks," a 2002 piece by Libby Larsen. Kirk-Doyle and Sitton will also present the "Sonata for Clarinet and Piano" by Francis Poulenc, followed by "Duo Sonata," a 2004 composition by Crane Professor Gregory Wanamaker. The recital will conclude with Dan Welcher's "Dante Dances."

This event is free, and the public is invited.

Julianne Kirk-Doyle joined the faculty of The Crane School of Music in 2006 and serves as associate professor of clarinet and director of the Crane Youth Music Camp. Dr. Doyle has performed and presented at numerous conferences, including the Midwest Band and Orchestra Clinic, International Clarinet Association ClarinetFest, International Double Reed Society, New York State School Music Association, New York State Band Directors Association, Mid-America Center for Contemporary Music and the Oklahoma Clarinet Symposium.

An active soloist and chamber musician, she is a member of the Aria Reed Trio and the Eastman Triana, with both ensembles having performed on WXXI Rochester's "Live at Hochstein" radio broadcast. She currently performs with the Orchestra of Northern New York and the Northern Symphonic Winds. Kirk-Doyle has previously played with the Richmond Symphony Orchestra, Amici Orchestra, Light Opera Oklahoma, Tulsa Philharmonic, Oklahoma City Philharmonic, Eastman Philharmonia, Eastman Opera Orchestra, Tulsa Philharmonic, Oklahoma City Philharmonic and the Eastman Wind Ensemble, including a tour to Japan, Taiwan and Macau.

She holds both a Doctor of Musical Arts and a Master of Music degree in performance and literature from the Eastman School of Music, as well as a Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Oklahoma. Her primary teachers include Jon Manasse, David Etheridge and Bradford Behn. She is a DANSR/Vandoren performing artist.

Dr. Michael Sitton was appointed dean of The Crane School of Music in 2009, having previously served as dean of fine arts at Eastern New Mexico University and as a faculty member and administrator at Hollins University in Virginia.

A pianist and composer, he holds a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in piano performance and literature from the University of Illinois, a master's degree from the University of Kentucky and a bachelor's degree from Mars Hill College in his native North Carolina.

He also studied in Paris, earning the Diplome de Concert from the Schola Cantorum, as a piano student of Gaby Casadesus. Sitton has performed widely as a soloist and collaborative musician, and his compositions, primarily in the choral medium, have been published and performed throughout the country.
