POTSDAM – Canton-Potsdam Hospital has named this year's Excellence in Nursing Award winners, Marsha Sweet, RN from the second floor Medical-Surgical Unit and Christine Govostis, RN, CNOR from the Operating Room.
Nominated by their peers, they were honored by their leaders, peers, and families at the Excellence in Nursing Awards Dinner held earlier this spring.
This year, Marsha Sweet received the Standards of Practice Award.
Marsha was praised for her thoroughness in all aspects of patient care, as well as her consideration for the varied needs of her patients. Marsha is seen as a team player and a positive force on the nursing floor.
Christine Govostis was the recipient of the Standards of Professional Performance Award.
Chris was recognized for her commitment to ethical, knowledge-based patient care in the Operating Room. She was also commended for working collaboratively with her peers and physicians, and for her leadership abilities, particularly as a champion for nursing shared governance.
The American Nurses Association (ANA) Standards of Practice is the criterion on which the Excellence in Nursing Awards are based.
The awards are intended to honor those nurses that exemplify these standards most fully in their professional lives. The ANA Standards reveal the values and priorities of the profession while also providing direction for professional nursing practice.
