St. Lawrence County Clerk Gavin Regan today said he has received a few inquires from concerned homeowners who received a sales pitch from a company called National Deed.
National Deed, which operates in New York as New York Record Retrieval Inc., is offering homeowners a certified copy of their deeds for $59.95.
"That’s a real lot of money, compared to how much it would cost you to get the document yourself," Regan said.
"If you were to stop by my office you could get the exact same thing for $5. That’s a 1,100% markup. I’m not sure I would call that a sales pitch."
