Ithaca, NY - Three power plays and an empty-netter highlighted the Clarkson University Women's Hockey team's effort in the first meeting against Cornell, but the Big Red limited the Golden Knights chances in the second meeting, outlasting the Green and Gold 2-1 in overtime Friday night at Lynah Rink.

The Golden Knights saw a six-game winning streak come to an end with the loss, dropping to 20-8-5 overall and 14-5-2 in ECAC Hockey, while third-rated Cornell avenged its loss to the Knights in January, moving to 25-3 and 19-2 in league play. Clarkson closes out the regular season on Saturday when it faces off against Colgate.

Cornell jumped out to an early lead with a goal just 2:40 into the game as Rebecca Johnston scored an unassisted marker in the first period to set the tone. The Big Red held a 9-4 edge in shots in the period.

In the second, Clarkson came out strong with a quick rush that resulted in the game-tying goal from Jamie Lee Rattray (Kanata, ONT). Rattray knocked in a rebound off a shot from Carly Mercer (Exeter, ONT), with Brittany Styner (Calgary, ALB) also picking up an assist, at the 3:28 mark of the second period.

The two teams were quiet on the scoreboard for the rest of the second period and the entire third frame, forcing an extra session, which would have given the Knights an edge in the season series. However, the Knights were never able to get a shot off in the overtime as Cornell had a pair of shots go wide and another saved before picking up the game-winner. Jillian Saulnier scored at 2:50 into overtime to lift the Big Red to the victory, with assists going to Johnston and Brianne Jenner.

Cornell held a modest edge in shots 29-28, with Clarkson's Erika Howe (Ottawa, ONT) making 27 saves and the Amanda Mazzotta matching that number in net for the Big Red. Both teams were 0-for-3 on the power play.

Carly Mercer's assist on the Clarkson goal gave her 26 on the season, tying her with three other players for the second-most in the program's history. She also became just the fourth player in Golden Knights' history to reach 40 points in a season, joining Britney Selina (44, 2007-08), Marie-Jo Gaudet (40, 2008-09), and Dominique Thibault (40, in 2009-10).
