The two major candidates in the 21st Congressional District race say three debates have been arranged and agreed to, but none in St. Lawrence County.

Republican Matt Doheny said he and his Democratic opponent, incumbent Bill Owens of Plattsburgh, plan three debates before Election Day.

The debates are to be in what the Doheny campaign called the markets of Glens Falls Sept. 25, Plattsburgh Oct. 16, and Watertown Oct. 25.

• Glens Falls market: 8 p.m. Sept. 25 in the auditorium of Queensbury High School, 409 Aviation Rd. The one-hour event, sponsored by the Adirondack Chamber of Commerce, is open to the public. It will be rebroadcast on Mountain Lake PBS at 8 p.m. Oct. 4.

• Plattsburgh market: 7 p.m. Oct. 16 at the Valcour Conference Center at SUNY Plattsburgh, 3712 State Route 9. The event will be broadcast live on WPTZ-TV and live-streamed on WPTZ.com, but is not open to the general public.

• Watertown market: 7 p.m. Oct. 25 at Jefferson Community College, 1220 Coffeen St. The public’s attendance at this one-hour debate will require tickets, but it is free. YNN will carry the debate live on its Syracuse, North Country and Albany-area stations.

Rep. Owen’s campaign spokesman James Hannaway says the schedule is accurate.

Doheny claims his initiative moved the process forward.

“I’m pleased that my opponent has followed my lead and accepted these three offers,” said Doheny, the Republican, Conservative and Independence parties’ candidate. “Voters deserve to hear about our differing visions for both this district and for our great country.”

Doheny has also accepted the state Ranger School’s invitation to an Oct. 18 meet-the-candidate night at the State University of New York College of Environmental Science and Forestry, 257 Ranger School Road, Wanakena.

The forum will begin at 7 p.m., with Doheny expected to speak and take questions from the audience starting around 8 p.m.
