POTSDAM — The Potsdam Volunteer Fire Department partnered with Summit SHRED LAB on Saturday, Sept. 19, to host a Community Shred Day fundraiser, giving community members an opportunity to safely dispose of confidential documents while supporting their local volunteer fire department.
The event was held at Summit SHRED LAB in Potsdam, where participants were asked to place a $5 donation in the fire department’s boot. In return, Summit SHRED LAB provided free shredding of up to three boxes or 50 pounds of paper documents per participant. By the end of the four-hour event, approximately one ton of paper had been securely shredded.
The primary purpose of the fundraiser was to help support the Potsdam Volunteer Fire Department’s annual October donation campaign, with attendees receiving information and registration materials for the upcoming appeal. The event raised $327 for the Fire Department. Funds raised through the campaign help the department maintain and purchase equipment, provide firefighter training and public education materials, and support the everyday operations of the fire station. More information about supporting the Potsdam Volunteer Fire Department can be found at www.potsdamfire.org.
For many participants, the event offered more than an opportunity to safely dispose of unwanted paperwork containing personal or confidential information. Attendees had the option to Watch-it-Shred, observing their documents being securely shredded firsthand by Summit SHRED LAB technicians while learning what happens to the material after shredding, including how it is prepared for responsible recycling.
This marked the sixth annual Community Shred Day hosted by Summit SHRED LAB. The company is proud to partner with local community organizations and nonprofit groups to help raise funds for programs and services that are important to the North Country community.
“Community organizations and volunteer departments give so much to our communities,” said Marie Klobucar, owner and CEO of Summit SHRED LAB. “Members of our Summit team volunteered their time to help make this event possible. We’re proud to give our time and resources to support the people who volunteer theirs to make a difference in the communities they serve.”
Summit SHRED LAB and the Potsdam Volunteer Fire Department thank everyone who participated, donated, and helped make the event a success. Together, the two organizations provided a valuable service while bringing the community together to support the Fire Department, which has been making house calls since 1857.
