COLTON -- Voters in the Colton-Pierrepont Central School District approved a $10,610,000 budget for the 2017-18 school year in voting Tuesday.
They also approved a proposition to put a student on the Board of Education as a non-voting member, and re-elected the board president.
The tally was 146 in favor of the budget proposal and 25 opposed.
The amount of money to be raised through property taxes in $7,365,000, an increase of 0.75 percent.
The proposition to create a student seat on the board did better than the budget, 155 in favor and 15 opposed.
The principal will choose that student from among juniors and seniors in student government or a member of the National Honor Society.
Board president Scott Baxter, who was unopposed, was returned to his seat with 160 votes. His seat was the only one up for election this year. Tammy Coleman received one write-in vote.
Voters also approved 151-20 a proposition to establish a capital reserve fund.
The fund, not to exceed $4,000, 000, is to be built up over 10 years from surpluses and any other funds that can be applied to it.
The object is to eventually eliminate the need for borrowing through bonds and loans.
