Clear skies .... then 2-4 inches of snow predicted mid-week in St. Lawrence Valley

Skies will remain clear tonight and be sunny Tuesday over the St. Lawrence Valley before snow starts Tuesday night, according to National Weather Service forecasters.

Temperatures in the St. Lawrence Valley seem to have returned to a normal seasonal range after the recent wicked cold and the more recent snow and thaw.

The thermometer will drop in to the single digits with almost no wind tonight.

Winds will remain light tomorrow as a high temperature of around 26 is expected.

The NWS pegs our chance of now at 60 percent late tomorrow night, rising to90 percent Wednesday.

Less than five inches is expected, the Weather Service says.

The NWS forecast for the St. Lawrence Valley and northwestern Adirondacks:

• Tonight: Mostly clear, with a low around 4. Calm wind.

• Tuesday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 26. Calm wind becoming southwest 5 to 8 mph in the morning.

• Tuesday Night: Snow likely, mainly after 4a m. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 15. Calm wind becoming northeast around 6 mph after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible.

• Wednesday: Snow, mainly before 4pm. High near 25. Northeast wind 6 to 8 mph, with gusts as high as 21 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New snow accumulation of 2 to 4 inches possible.

• Wednesday Night: A 30 percent chance of snow before 10pm. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 3. North wind around 7 mph becoming west after midnight. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible.

• Thursday: Partly sunny, with a high near 17. Southwest wind 5 to 9 mph.

• Thursday Night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 8. Southwest wind around 10 mph.

• Friday: Partly sunny, with a high near 22. Southwest wind 10 to 13 mph.

• Friday Night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 9. Southwest wind 8 to 10 mph.

• Saturday: Partly sunny, with a high near 23. Southwest wind around 6 mph becoming calm in the afternoon.

• Saturday Night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 4. Calm wind.

• Sunday: A 30 percent chance of snow. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 21. Calm wind becoming north around 5 mph in the afternoon.

• Sunday Night: A 30 percent chance of snow. Cloudy, with a low around 3. Northwest wind around 5 mph.

• Monday: Calm wind.
