POTSDAM -- The Clarkson University ROTC Ranger Challenge team recently finished fourth in the Ranger Challenge competition in Fort Dix, N.J.
This year’s competition consisted of eight events, including land navigation, rappelling off a 60-foot tower, obstacle courses, assembling the one rope bridge, machine gun crew drills with a combined grenade course, a casualty care lane through the woods, as well as an evening tug of war tournament, and a morning seven-mile foot march.
The team placed first in the obstacle course, second place in rappelling, and third place in crew drill.
Every year, 44 teams from schools across the northeast compete in Army skills. This year’s team from Clarkson’s Golden Knight Battalion consisted of nine cadets and three alternates representing cadets from Clarkson and SUNY Potsdam.
The Clarkson representatives were co-captain David Broderick, co-captain Summer Lancette, Hayley Elliot, Sam Suski, Colin Barnes, Joseph Ford, Cooper Richard and Gino Filiaci.
The group also included the team captain from SUNY Potsdam, Taylor Richardson.
The team’s alternates were also Clarkson University representatives, Kyle Phillips, Andrew Sawicki and Nick Barden, and the team was coached by Leo Krystof and Alec Savage.
