Playing 12th-ranked Union College on the road proved to be too much for the Clarkson University Lacrosse team on Saturday as the Golden Knights fell to the Dutchmen 13-6 in Liberty League action at College Park Field in Schenectady.

Clarkson, which saw a modest two-game winning streak come to an end, falls to 4-5 overall and to 1-2 in the Liberty League. All three conference games have come against nationally-ranked foes. The Green and Gold are back in action on Saturday when they host Skidmore in league play at Hantz Turf Field, beginning at 12 noon.

The Knights got on the scoreboard first against Union with a goal by senior Matthew Gold (Pittsford, NY) four minutes in. The Dutchmen (8-2, 2-1) scored the next two goals before senior Mark Nortz (Lowville, NY) made 2-2 with 3:53 remaining in the first quarter.

Union then went on an eight-goal run to take a commanding 10-2 lead early in the final quarter. The Dutchmen led 7-2 at the half and 9-2 through 45 minutes.

Gold led Clarkson with two goals. Senior Corey Herrington (Camillus, NY) tallied one goal and one assist. Senior J.D. St. Croix (Camillus, NY) and freshman Ryan DaRin (Manlius, NY) also scored for the Knights.

Union outshot Clarkson 44-34 and controlled ground balls, 36-21.

Sophomore Nick Strandholm (Happy Valley, OR) made 16 saves in the Clarkson net.

Peter Richardson and Tom Stanton scored three goals each for the Dutchmen.
